The ‘Mile Zero Group Ride’ kicked off with just yours truly and buddy Doug, as our local dentist had already embarked on a solo adventure – perhaps she thought Thursday was ‘National Ride Your Own Way’ day? A quick trailside rendezvous and a gentle reminder about our usual Thursday gathering ended with a cheerful, ‘Oh yeah! See you next week!’ Fingers crossed for a bigger group next time.
Luckily, I had the pleasure of riding with Doug, who possesses the boundless energy of a caffeinated squirrel on a tandem bike. The conversation was fantastic, making the miles to near Rantoul, Kansas, fly by. The smooth return on 327th was a welcome treat for the legs.
Now, about those trailside residents… last week, we had a party of three horses. This week, it was a more intimate gathering of two – different horses, different riders. Clearly, the equestrian community enjoys that particular scenic overlook as much as we do. Thankfully, this time our passing was completely uneventful. Perhaps they recognized our bikes and figured we were harmless!
Another great ride in the books, with a funny almost-missed connection and a slightly different cast in our ongoing trailside saga. Looking forward to seeing who (and what!) we encounter next Thursday!”
